Beekeeping rules in Mexico
Every year you must requeen each colony with a European-origin or genetically improved queen, marking her thorax with that year's color (0/5 blue, 1/6 white, 2/7 yellow, 3/8 red, 4/9 green), replace any rustic hives with modern movable-frame hives, and wear light-colored protective clothing (NOM-002-SAG/GAN-2016, 4.2-4.4, 6.2.2).
In control zones your apiaries must be at least 200 m from populated places and main roads (or the distance set by state law), you may be asked to help capture swarms, any swarm you keep must be requeened with a queen from an approved breeder, and you cannot use honey in the candy for queen cages (6.2.1, 4.6-4.7).
To move populated hives, queens, nucs or other bee material into or within a control zone you need a Certificado Zoosanitario from SADER or an approved body, queens must come with the breeder's current genetic and health certificate, and the hives must be branded (7.1).
You must test for varroa in 15% of the hives in each apiary at least every six months, and if infestation exceeds 5% the whole apiary must be treated under official supervision using products registered by SADER (NOM-001-ZOO-1994, 4.1, 7.1, 8.1).
Any colony you move or sell must carry the official SINIDA discs (a large one on the front and a small one on the back of the brood box), which means your production unit (UPP) must be registered in the PGN, and you must report any lost, stolen or damaged discs to SINIDA (NOM-001-SAG/GAN-2015, 4.1-4.3, 6.4.2).
